WHO CAN CHEER?

MRC Cheerleading is open to any girl aged five, who is entering Kindergarten in September, to age 14, or who is entering 8th grade in September. Registration for fall football cheer opens on April 1st, while winter basketball cheer registration opens September 1st. The fee for cheerleading is $125.00 and all girls must be registered through the MRC website (www.marltonreccouncil.org).

FOOTBALL CHEERLEADING

Cheerleading for football is considered a fall sport but we do begin with team meetings in July and outdoor practices in August. This year, our practices will be held two to three times a week (between Tuesday and Thursday) at the Evesboro-Down Fields, where the MRC Chiefs Football teams practice. Coaches will decide which nights and times work best for their squad but practices will not go past 8:00 pm. Once school begins, practices are once per week and will be held at Jaggard Elementary School.

Cheerleaders attend home games only and those games are played at Memorial Field and occasionally at Cherokee. Because coaches will incorporate stunting and develop halftime routines based around the girls on their squads, it is expected that our cheerleaders take their participation seriously and attend all practices and games unless there is an unforeseen issue.

In addition to practices and attending games, MRC Cheerleaders kick off their season with a Pep Rally, meet every month for team-building activities, and have the opportunity to meet and learn from the Cherokee Cheerleading team. Our season concludes with a banquet to celebrate our season and each cheerleader individually.

The cost incurred throughout the season is minimal. The registration fee is $125.00 and that includes a uniform and pom poms, which are given out on Uniform Distribution Night. Parents must purchase a cheer bow ($10.00) and cheer sneakers (ranging between $30.00 and $40.00). If you have the new cheer bow from last year, you do not need to buy another one. And coaches will go over which sneakers are needed for the season. Also at the team meeting, our coaches and commissioner will discuss the fundraising requirement and how the money that is raised during our fundraiser will be allocated. As an option, an apparel sale will begin at your team meeting and wrap up on the first night of practice so items can be delivered prior to the start of the games.

BASKETBALL CHEERLEADING

Basketball Cheerleading is a winter sport, yet it begins in the fall. Registration opens in September and practices commence in October. Practices will be held at Jaggard Elementary School twice to three times a week. Once games begin in December, the squads do not practice anymore since most games are held during the week. Cheerleaders cheer for the MRC Boys Travel Basketball teams. Games are played at Cherokee High School and Marlton Middle School. The season wraps up in February with a banquet for all our cheerleaders!

To keep within the safety requirements, MRC basketball cheerleaders do not tumble or perform stunts. Instead, the program is centered around bleacher cheering and halftime routines highlight dance movements .
